Words are the cornerstone of my life and my agency.

Ever since I was a child, I've been fascinated by words. So much, in fact, that I wrote my first "book" when I was 7 years old. It was written from the perspective of an apple seed being planted in the ground, complete with first-person omniscient narrative, colorful drawings, and all the witticisms you'd expect from a cheeky youngster growing up on the fringes of New York City.

As I grew, so too did my passion for words. I went on to learn them in different languages as I traveled the world in pursuit of an ambitious academic career, with no shortage of scholarships, extracurriculars, editorial roles, and club memberships. It was all part of a carefully-strategised plan to build an esteemed career in law — a place where words are paramount and I'd be wordsmithing on the daily. This was the culmination of all my hard work, the métier of my dreams. My proverbial "end game" to make my family proud and have a good, sensible life.

I'd made it. Or so I thought.

Don't get me wrong: status, accolades, a well-appointed office, and a closet full of Christian Louboutin stilettos and smart business suits definitely have their panache — but not if your heart isn't in it. And that was the exact predicament in which I found myself.

So there I was, fancy Starbucks latte in hand, staring blankly out the window of my shiny 50th-floor office. That was when the truth dawned on me.

It was time to reconnect with my creative roots.
